ADILABAD: Authorities have ramped up security for the Nagoba Jatara in Indravelli mandal, anticipating a large number of devotees this year. This move follows recent stampedes at major religious events like Tirupati and Kumbh Mela.
To manage the expected surge, police have deployed 600 officers, installed 100 CCTV cameras, and utilised a drone camera alongside a dedicated police control room. The Nagoba Jatara, the state’s second-largest Adivasi festival, will continue until February 4.
The number of attendees is expected to rise due to the Mahalakshmi scheme, which offers free RTC bus travel for women. Superintendent of police Gause Alam emphasised the need to respect Adivasi culture and maintain proper behaviour among devotees. Police teams were provided with daily use kits and mess facilities to support their duties.
SP Alam instructed officers to remain vigilant and ensure swift access to medical ambulances and fire-fighting units in case of emergencies. The temple premises have been divided into six sectors, with police operating in three shifts to ensure comprehensive coverage. Additional security measures include bike and foot patrols, plainclothes officers, and special surveillance by the CCS Special Branch.
Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah said that all arrangements have been meticulously planned to avoid inconvenience to devotees. He noted that this year’s Jatara is expected to attract lakhs of devotees, surpassing last year’s turnout. Additionally, minister for rural development Danasari Seethakka and endowment minister Konda Surekha will attend the traditional darbar on January 31.
